Well, it needs a few things sorted, but it sounds awesome.

I think a big issue with his car is his fuel pressure regulator, he's running a 255 pump, with a stock reg, that I'm not sure references boost because as SOON as you get into positive manifold pressure (at any throttle point), it just goes straight fat to 10.1 on the wideband and stays there no matter what. Off boost, it's doing it's thing correctly around 13.1 out of boost middle range rpm points. It's just literally like a fuel dump switch at boost. So I got a sneaking suspicion this will go away with a decent reg, as I swear it just pushes past it as it opens up.

Also it's currently venting to atmosphere giving him a few idle/low speed rpm (think stopping at a light) stalling quibs, along with the inbetween shift fatness/falling on it's face thing. It's on a tuned ECU, so it's good to compensate for most of the stuff, but it just needs gone over and made right. It's still one of his first times out with the car.

That said, when the external opens up, it sounds very cool, and it's a very fun car to drive around. Very light feeling and low. I can see why these are so popular. He's definately on the right track though. 8)

My first mod after the 255 pump on my 25 was a nismo FPR. Its a shame I just sold my old one, but for $100 dollars its a MUST. Vac off set to 43 psi and your good to go. People who use the factory reg run stupid rich, it just cant handle the walbro 255s added flow.

They are very fun cars to drive indeed, when they run that is. :thumbsup:

car doesn't move until its tuned. All its done was idle, oil change, and wait.

I have little time work on this car because of school but I got some things sorted.

I had my Z32 maf grounded incorrectly. I grounded the right wire to the chassis, and it leaned the AFR's out quite a bit. The car would be like 10:1 as SOON as it went into boost(wideband only goes down to 10, it was probably in like the 9's in reality). The car does still run rich, its like 10.0-10.5 at WOT but it's much better and I can smoke the shit out of second gear now, instead of it sputtering and running like balls past 3500. I'll need to get an SAFC or something to lean out the mixture a bit. My tune is for 11.8 at WOT.

As this is my first turbo car I had no idea how much boost would disrespect the fuck out of any vacuum line, or bewst tube that I put it on the car. The whole day I was blowing shit off. I clamped EVERYTHING correctly and pluged all the vacuum caps that popped off, and now the car runs flawlessly. The vented bov has no affect on the driveablity besides the car dropping to like 450-500 when I clutch in and come to a stop. The stalling issue is gone now.
I am seriously considering going blow-thru at this point. The intake I made is retarded(ill post pics soon) and is way too close to hot air for my likening. The JGS manifold that I have makes it almost impossible to route a draw-thru intake because the turbo is mounted so far forward.

Anyways, I'll have to get some updated pictures. It has a front bumper now, and the engine bay looks a little bit cooler with an aluminum radiator and cleaner boost tubes and shit. I'll finish wiring stuff this weekend and mabey roll the front fenders a bit, as I refuse the raise the car up any as it has a thug stance as it sits now.

Tom thanks for all the help this weekend, I'll probably roll around your way this weekend as long as the weather stays nice.

Good to hear, I'm telling you man get a Nismo FPR on that bitch, it bolts right on the factory rail. Set your FP to 43 psi vac off. That should help your rich issue as well.

I take it this was a chipped tune for your setup you have?

Yeah It's a chipped ecu for 550's, Z32 maf, fuel curve, 7200 redline, removed speed limiter blah blah...
Do you happen to have an S13 gas tank laying around Cory? I know it's kind of random.
My daily has been leaking and it's really starting to affect my average gas mileage.

i saw the daily in m1 the other day. then i drove by again, and noticed a mudflap/some sort of bracket where it was parked. loose something?

No gas tank sorry. I have a front left fender for a pig nose tho if you need one. haha. Bummer about the tank, the middle seal is most likely rotted out. Does it still leak when under half tank?

Yeah it pretty much leaks when I put more than $5 of gas in it now. I think the tank from the dealer is 350 or something. Eff that!

Hey Mark, I turned the boost up a little from the 12psi you rode in it to 17 :lol:

I can't freakin wait to get this thing (laser) leaned out up top, it's gonna haul so much ass :thumbsup:

Glad to hear you found a source for the fueling issue. Sounds like you're getting really close now!
+1 for actually reading up and chasing down possible leads, I never would have guessed to check the maf; I wish more people would take the time to figure out what is causing problems and do a little research.

I often look at pictures like this 500+hp pump gas stock internal 2JZ swapped RX-7 and wonder how much hot under hood air getting into the intake actually decreases power, and increases the chance of detonation. Even if I went blow-through and just had a filter on my turbo like this I'd still be taking in m@d amounts of hot air. I mean car manufacturers route intakes in the fenders and put boxes around intakes for this reason right? I guess I could apply some Thermo here and figure it out but I've already go enough homework to do.

That filter will eventually melt off mounted on the turbo like that. You can build a box around the filter to as you slide it forward. Post a pic of your engine bay top view. See what kinda room your working with.

EDIT: get some of these Image and make an extension off your turbo with another coupler. It looks like you have room.

My air filter is sitting right behind the headlight, kinda wedged in the corner of my fender/core support. When I data logged it the air temps were only about 15-20 degrees higher than the ambient air temp after a few pulls. Once the air goes into the compressor housing its instantly heated up, then the IC helps bring that back down. I wanted to measure intake temps at the filter, then again after the compressor, then once more before the TB (where my current temp sensor is located) It would be nice to see the actual heating/cooling effects the IC system has on the air. But yeah never cared enough to do it.

The length of tubing was required so the maf does not see turbulent air from the compressor. I have an aluminum radiator now which is much thicker so it decreases the amount of space I have to run stuff even more...grr.

If I was you I'd ditch those E-fans and keep the clutch fan. I SOOO wish I could fit a clutch fan on my setup.

Anyways try bringing that intake over towards the driver fender, it will keep it from getting heatsoaked from your radiator.

Eff that clutch fan. The only good thing about it was the shroud around it. I had to get rid of it to run the intake the way I did though. There isn't any room to put the intake over by the fender with my hotpipe chillin all in the the way. My next setup is going to be a bottom mount tubular for sure. This is gay.

Holy hell that thing is fucking nice. Yeah maybe if I made some adjustments to the hotpipe. I'm not sure if that would provide me with enough distance from the turbo for the maf to work correctly. I used to have a pipe off the compressor that was about 8 inches and it still caused the maf to fux. It may be my turbo. This thing is old school technology, and probably causes huge amounts of turbulence in the incoming airflow due to the design of the blades.

I'm just speculating and rambling though. This engine is going to blow in due time and I'll be able to do what I really want and build a low compression engine and run lots of boost on a 60-1 or something. This is just kind of a learn how to work with turbo's/learning experience for me.

nice.... lol thats what i wanna do.... but my motors going, well leaking.. and it needs rebuilt. thats why when its done it'll be a 383 for a long time, years down the road i'll add a turbo.

I noticed you have no clamps on those couplers... if your driving like that, that could be your case right there. You really don't need a "set" amount of length with a standard MAF setup. Its when its a blow through setup you have to worry. I can post countless RB pics where people have hardly any piping between their MAF and the compressor housing.

I've personally run the maf directly off the turbo...Doesn't work
I've run the maf slightly off the turbo...sucked...not as bad though
I've run the maf 8 inches from the turbo...starting to get better
Now I run the maf like a little of 12 inches from the turbo...success.

I have some diagrams from JGS that recommend 10-12 inches or something of pipe in between the maf and the turbo. I'll have to dig those up somewhere
