SVN 2009 in review

Well, it was a long ass haul to the past weekend...

Spent the 3 weeks prior thrashing my ass off putting the car back to running after my dyno boogerings. Got her all buttoned up and fresh shit installed 2 days before I left for vacation the 9th. Had my brother/friend put some miles on her while I was visiting the sister in sunny N.C. I've since decided I need a more practical daily than the laser lol....you'll see that in the F/S section soon haha. (12hr trip back to back without a hitch though ;) )

Anyhow, car had a bad vibration issue from the driveshaft mishap last season still; so that was on my list when I woke up to a rainy ass friday morning on a plan to hit-up Summit. The day before I left for NC I was informed the house is now sold, so I'm out on the hunt for a pad; but anyhow instead of going and getting down to business friday I got a faceful of yardsale and a garage that was no longer accessable. Fuck lol.

$233 later I was at my buddies changing the shaft and going over my xpipe bolts. We hit the track about 6pm and only got in one hot off the highway run before the rain hit and they called it a night due to the lack of cars. Total bust.

SVN Saturday. Usually THE day for the event. Got to the track around noonish and let the car cool down as I went over my shit. Come run time, I get in the box, white smoke the tires and stage as shallow as I can as this turd needs all the roll-out I can get. Conclusion? I need slicks....BAD. I was way sideways through 2nd and even into 3rd a few times. I wasn't too worried about an ET on street tires, but I thought I could at least pull some cool MPH. Sadly it was not the case. The car doesn't really make much more than 5psi until after 4500 unless the tires are lit, and at this point I'm not sure how much boost is just going straight to the crankcase.

My best runs were walking it out nice in 1st (anything over 1/2 pedal and it's LIT) and lace it in the top of the gear and grab 2nd. Anyone who watched me run got to see me damn near get it into the wall a few times heh. After the 2nd set of bleachers it'd finally hook and get into 3rd lol. My best pass of the night was a sad 13.7 at 107 and some change. I lost a header bolt the last run with an exhaust leak. I went back to the pits to see the dipstick had been pressurized and spraying oil over my A/C components.....I guess it is what it is for a 183k shortblock. Went and got some harware and called it a night....partied it up till 4:30am and crashed on the air mattress in the tent.

Woke up Sunday morning groggy as fuck and dissappointed overall. Got in the lanes and hammered it hard. Went 13.3 at 108 and change. It was about as good as it was going to get. Oh well.

I still have no idea what it makes to the tires. The car will change lanes and get ALL over the place from a 45 roll and just NOT stop pulling. I think I would pick up quite a bit of MPH if I could hook the fucker down low. So it's kinda bittersweet to me. I'd if I'll care to strap it back down before I just redo everything again. I met Terry and Shawn down there saturday from Street Lethal and he offered to toss her back to see what it's doing if I wanted. TOP NOTCH dudes for sure. Tune never missed a beat, ran awesome in the heat, started every time. A+ work.

On a side note, don't run the red cobra (brother) with the giggle gas. He went 13.1 at 115 spinning his ASS off. At least he's got over 500 instant lb ft torque at the wheels to get it back moving lol.

I guess there's always next year. I'll have to get a real bottom end in that thing and really rip some shit up 8-)

Definately down for some roll action though while it's lasting

Ha, sounds like an interesting time. The mustang sounds badass in the video ha. Interested to see what it runs with some slicks for sure.

And you're already ready to sell the dsm?! How much are you looking for it?!

I'd want around 4-4500 for it if I can. Will come with 2 sets of wheels, ton-o-parts, t case, front ST swaybar, all the talon shit etc. I'd rather just mess with the mustang. It's alot more fun to me anyhow. I actually prefer a lightly modded fwd DSM as a daily. Kinda miss my eclipse.

My brother got a 99 (i think) 4x4 blazer 2dr and I really like it. A zr2 one would be cool in like yellow or something.

I've been kicking around the small SUV thing for awhile. I'd trade or trade + $ for the right one. I was entertaining the idea of a jeep liberty or something idk. Make me an offer if you want I suppose, or just hit me up to drive it anyhow

I would be scared to drive a Blazer let alone a two door Blazer. Have you seen the crash tests on those?

Man once again sorry to hear about your issues! That car has alot left in it. You and your brother are both stand up guys and like I said if you want you can come borrow my slicks. Just leave me something to roll the car around on for now.

I will take on that punk ass red cobra!!! On street tires too! I will be at the track friday if that gallbladder-less sucka wants some of this! If you want some you can have some too!! BWAHAHAHAHHA!!!

Seriously though I am going friday if you feel like comin out. Scott said he might at least go watch if he is feeling up to it, he might be better served resting though.

I'm gonna see if putting the turbines on the front helps at all, plus play with the jets/timing to try and get some more out of it.

Tom from watching your runs I think its compression/leakdown test time.

Unless your engine is missing a bit of timing, I think shes on her way out on you. :(

Check your 1/8 mile trap to 1/4 trap, and see how many mph you picked up. I'm sure you were hooked by the 1/8th and it should be all go then.

Yeah I know it's huffing it pretty well under boost. I was told I had some smoke at the track on the topend, which makes sense as it was spinning and not putting a good load on things down low. I mostly noticed when I popped my hood and saw my dipstick had been pressurized and there was oil all over my A/C stuff.

I believe the air filter oil is my lack of a catchcan on the half blown-up 302, just leaking back down. (I do run a baffled breather but it obviously isnt helping).

Yea, I REAALLY dont feel like spending the $ now, and I don't really have it to spend. I have to find a place to live, move all my shit out, pay for storage....its a joke. Another $25-2700 for a longblock is not in the cards.

I was actually trying to sell the car on saturday....I don't think I need mention of what I'd replace it with.

That really sucks Tom, sorry to hear that. I know how the money situation goes, priorities before cars. Its tough to do, but its best for sleep at night lol.

You could always get a factory low miles bottom end cheap I'm sure if your really in a pinch. Sounds to me like your rings are gone/going fast. You have the same exact symptons mine dide when my pistons had melted my rings together not allowing it to center in the bore, this caused massive blow buy, blowing my breathers off, dumping oil into my air intake/IC tract. The began to burn it. Not saying you melted anything, but definitally seems like a ring sealing issue.

Best of luck w/e you do with her. You always have the DSM for a daily right?

Haha thanks. Yeah I still have the Doesn't Stay Moving, but I'd really like to get rid of it too.

I'm at the point where usually I'd wait over winter, save and try again, but idk how well that one is going to pan out. It's now summer, and I lost my garage and funding.....I'm prolly going to toss the car on ***tech.com and see if someone wants to bite.

Maybe I'll just put my bicycle back together and rock that around....sounds cost effective

Nick: I've not much love for that particular DSM....U got a cool normal daily and or $ and u can have it.

Bill: I'll prolly just sit on it, as I'd want too much for it, even with it hurt. I'd trade straight up for a black ws6 m6 car though...might be cheaper to get one of those and swap

eww.. sorry to hear all your troubles! Did you really camp in a tent at Quaker? Ughhhhh I tried that one year and it was terrible!

I ran a 14.2 @ 103... Not exactly sure what I did wrong but it was fun! Beat a couple of Camaros =D

Good luck going straight.. my dad has similar problems but probably not as bad by the way it sounds.. lol. The wall bites back from what I hear!
