Simple but true

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

POWER TIPS:

Big Power - Focus where it matters
By Don Terrill (c)

When trying to make more power, it's very easy to waste
a bunch of time on things that don't matter. The
following lists will help to focus your time and money
- Do these first and then consider other areas. Rules
may limit some of your options, but these are the
biggies.

The Engine:

1. Power-Adders - Considered by many as the easy way
out, but you can't deny the results of nitrous oxide,
blowers and turbo chargers. In fact, HP per Dollar,
nothing beats nitrous. I know many racers will have too
much pride to consider power adders, but there's still
no doubt their position for this list.

2. Engine size - Unless there was some really good
reason, why would anyone build a 289 Ford, 327 Chevy or
396 Chevy? With the current price of aftermarket
stroker crankshafts, there's no excuse for not building
big.

3. Intake & Exhaust - Like the cliche' goes, an engine
is just an air pump. So, anything we can do to increase
the amount of air entering and leaving the cylinder is
going to increase power. Follow the air path - hood,
air cleaner, carb, intake, heads, headers, mufflers and
tailpipes.

4. Compression - The need for better fuel and added
load on engine components make this no free lunch, but
there's no doubt the power potential of increased
static compression.

5. Valve Events - The right camshaft and rocker ratios
will maximize the amount of air that is compressed
before combustion. Valve timing is half the equation in
calculating dynamic compression (static compression and
valve timing).

Now that you've got the power, don't waste it.

The Car:

1. Weight - Nothing lightens the load quicker than
actually lightening the load. If rules permit, or there
are no rules, why not choose the lightest car possible?
You can also trim weight from your current car - start
at the front of the vehicle and work your way back.

2. Hook - It doesn't matter if you're stock car racing
or drag racing, all the horsepower in the world is
worthless if you can't hook it.

3. Gear ratios - Every engine has an optimal rpm range
- torque converters, transmissions and rear gear ratios
can all be adjusted to keep an engine in that range.

So, if you're starting from scratch, why not build the
biggest engine, put it in the lightest car and then
bolt on your power-adder of choice?

None of them know what this means Craig. They don't like BIG V8's  and they almost never refer to thier engine size in cubic inches. You're on the wrong forum with this thread. :nono: Talk about V-V-T, half-shafts, awd, intercoolers and turbos here only, thanks.

So you , me , and Gary are the only ones interested in this then. Perhaps you should allow me back on your page so I can stretch my brain a little bit. I promise to get along with you and your brother

I think that post can still be adapted here. They make stroker cranks for small engines, a good exhaust and intake is a good idea regardless of cubes. Nitrous is the cheapest power adder or best bang for the buck. Cam selection is important. Take out #2 under "engine" and everything applies to the majority on this forum IMO. I'm not a 4 banger basher so don't think I posted that as a dig or whatever guys. I'm just "the old bald guy" remember?

I like n2o alot....its really really fun....good peice to read though 8)

As far as the weight thing yea yep....found that part of the equation out.

Ya no matter what you drive all could apply. Hell look at the guys that are throwing V8's into Miatas, 944s, Datsons and S2000s. Not so much for the crowd in this area but all can deffinately apply.

Just think whoever gets this SS after me will have no idea it went consistant 12.30s

The thing for me and my tiny 6 cylinder is all about the proper sized turbo squeezing as much air as possible into the cylinders. That should get the job done.

As for cranks, mine is basically the strongest I can buy, and its yes factory. People have ran 1300-1400hp through them no problem. There are Japanese companies that make longer stroked cranks that are just as strong If I felt like paying 2 grand for it....

I pretty much know all there is to making my motor make power, its just a matter of actually doing it w/o any hiccups. I've got the proper items currently that arnt cheaped out on and are quality products which hopefully I'll be able to show some of you this summer. :) I'm actually testing a new cam shaft design for a company... I shall see what it does.

an rb25det, out of a Nissan Skyline... but its decently modified currently...

It would have been running last year if it wasn't for a wrong camshaft causing detrimental damage to it.

i raced a kid back in 04 with the plate "4N V8 KLR" it was an awd talon... my ta was bone stock, i had the ttops off and me rick and his friend in the car, it happened in kent on 261, he was rolling deep with a bunch of other ricers an a mustang (go figure) i rolled up to the stang and asked who the fastest car was and he pointed at the talon... from a dig i spanked him... he was shocked and tried saying he ran low 12s lol

that was one of the funnier plates i've seen

anyone see the evo from ohio that says "V8 HAHA"?

there are no fast cobras around, plus you may be confused (since you have a mach 1 with a cobra front bumper... its not a cobra) mustang guys sometimes get confused of what they have sometimes

...there was a fassst supercharged white 99/01 cobra with street lethal stickers on it ran a 13.85 opening day at quaker... he musta needed to "tune it a little more"
