is that an lt1 car? is there anything done to it besides the exhaust? if not you might be able to pull a high 14.xx if you can drive. anyway you should come out and so should that dude you were arguing with about who has the faster firebird. unless u guys already settled it in the strizeets....

i dont know what you drive and i dont care. but you have got to be kidding me. high 14's? they run a 14.1 stock. and i have full exhaust(hearders,ory,cat back) cai, and a short throw shifter. anyway i'm most likely going to the track this weekend. and i like it how you asked me if it was an lt1 then said my lt1 doesnt want any of your car. but yeah i'm probably not going to get everything out of the car friday cause it will be my first time to the track in this car. but i know for a fact a buddy of mine wants to race you pretty bad. its a camaro with the same mods as me (i/e). i'm sure we could work something out. and no i'm not "nut swinging" he actually told me earlier today that he wanted to race you. and the guy that i was "arguing" with has a camaro too. not a bird...... its in his sig.......

Going by the shifting in the vids, I got $ on 15.1 -15.2.

14.4s-14.0 if he can actually drive and it has what it's supposed to.....but high 14s are pretty on the $. ;)

I went 14.4 @ 96 in mine stock hammering that thing down.....but that was my best pass and 14.7-14.8 wasn't too uncommon for me at first....they don't exactly shine up top and stock 16s with poopy tires ain't helping much.

See I am glad there is a voice of reason on this board as far as REALISTIC track times, thanks tom.

That whole "they run 14.1 stock" bullshit doesn't fly in the real world pal. I have seen COUNTLESS lt1 firebirds and camaros run 15.1 with an exhaust and an air intake. and a couple of those were automatics that came out really nice (like a 2.1 60'). The fact that you cant shift (and are probably worse at launching) means that you driving your six speed car will probably run slower than a similar car that is automatic. My advice is buy some good tires, they will make up for SOME of your lack of driving skill.

If you really are going THIS friday 7/17/09 put up a post that day and I will come out and watch. I wont be racing until the following weekend though.

Your buddy that wants to race, he has an LT1 camaro with the same mods as yours? 6sp or auto? I dunno since those cameros are SOOOO much faster than the firebirds i might not race him :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

If you can bring it out at say like 4500 in 1st on a good tire, that fucker will maybe bump a 13.8-9 (stock), but the stock clutches in these tend to suck, as I tried that with the 315's on the back and went slower as I couldnt bring it out as hard without hurting the clutch.

I could see as much as maybe like high 97mph ish, 98 on a factory freak IF you brought it out hard as fuck in 1st

Like I had said before though, you will need a tune (or should at least have one to maximize shit) with all the other crap. With the 'full boltons' sorta route, and a tire with a clutch on stock 3:42s, I could see the car running well into the 13s, but not on those factory 16s on a stock clutch.

The lt1s are alot of fun down low, but once you get them into 3rd, you are wheezing and that's where you are going to have to make up your ground on a so-so launch with stock crap. It's why you will always get cars put on you by a stock ls1 after the top of 2nd. Maybe with a gear the lt1'd do a little better.

They CAN fly but only with the right combo and driver. I don't mean to knock the lt1's because I kinda like them and I do like how much they can pick up using stock heads (reworked of course) and a matched cam. For older tech on a budget I like them alot, but most are fairly ratty and underdriven/maintained.

Matt Mochella's (sp?) lt1 you will see out from time to time is a perfect example of a clean, tastefully modded and well driven car that goes 12s regularly without a very wild setup at all.

You HAVE to be realistic, especially if you've never ran it before....pray it's not hot out. They love to heatsoak and and opti works best on a cool run ;) Watch your oil pressure too if you're twisting the fuck out of it...

There ARE reasons why people run the ls shit now :twisted:

all the hate..... anyway guess we'll see. i think i'll get a best of 14.2 cause its my first time out in the car. but its capeable of a 13.8. the first run is going to be HORRIBLE i know. and like i said my days best will most likely be a 14.2 but thats not all the car has.

oh yeah and cruxsucks its an ls1. with 2.73s in the back. you should have no problem. its a converable for god sake. :lol: :roll: 35 roll sound good? :lol: :lol: :lol:

I wasn't expecting Brett to call you out for me but thats ok haha. My cars mostly stock, LT headers + catted y, 3" QTP cutout, MTI air lid 2.73 geared auto. I'll race from either a 35 or 65 roll whatever you want. I'll probably be at Quaker for Test & Tune Friday too but since you're on a full drag slick I don't consider that a fair race, plus it's my first time at the track and I'm only there to mess around. I can't run hard anyways, 13.49 and I get the boot for not having a cage :(

If you don't mind me asking, is your car auto or manual? If auto, what stall speed? What size gear? Spray? Also what tire are you running? It should be close. Looking forward to a good race.

well its not like you have a turbo civic or something dude so i dont know why you want to race from a roll. if i had a motorcycle or something fwd with no traction or torque id want to race from a roll, but i drive (and so do you) a rwd v8, therefore i race from a dig.

secondly if you dont think its fair that i have slicks, go buy slicks. slicks are for the track, i am at the track, i run slicks, period.

another thing you should probably do some reading about nhra and (more importantly since thats what quaker is) ihra rules, you dont need a cage at quaker until 11.49 and faster. you do need a helmet at 13.99 and faster though.

my car is a 5speed, it has 3.73 gears, all motor, at the track i run mickey thomspon et drags (26x8.5-15).

like i said before i am not going racing at quaker this friday, i will be out there next friday (the 24th) to race. if you and brett are racing this friday i would gladly come watch, i might go out to watch anyway.

Brett, I would be surprised if you ran faster then a 14.3 in your Firebird, being it'll be your first time out. Quaker does not prep the track with VHT because they say it costs too much. I know the LT1 engine and what it can do stock and modified. I also have a 97 LT1, although an auto. I've also been on Camaroz28.com for the past 6 years [largest lt1 forum on the net]. My best time when it had stock 2.73 gears, Borla cat-back, and a Moroso cai was a 14.5 due to not being able to launch hard [I had zero wheel spin]. I ran a 14.5 a couple weeks ago with new 3.42 gears, catback and cai, aluminum drive-shaft, randomtech dual-cat y-pipe, slp mid-length headers, 275/40/17 tires and a pcm4less tune. Why did I run just as slow as last year? Non-existent track prep. I kicked the rear end of my car out at the starting line. Also, if you want a tip to help you launch your car, spend a $100 and get these rear lower control arms for your car. If you want to run on the street with street tires I'll race from a dig. I just don't see the point in racing someone on slicks when I'm running street tires. I suggested a roll race because I figured you won't hook up on the street from a dig, but if you want a dig thats fine by me. We can set up a time/location through PM or at the track, doesn't matter to me.

Slicks would be a waste of cash for me. I'm only going to the track Friday so I can race my friend Jason. By the way, I did plenty of reading. I even called Quaker and asked them myself a long time ago. You are correct, *most people* need a cage if they run 11.49 and a helmet at 13s. However, for convertibles you need a 5pt cage at 13.49 and a helmet no matter what you run.

i've heard the horror stories of qcr's prep but is it really THAT bad? did you lower your tire pressure? anyway yeah i'm going to get lca's and a torque arm next but no $$$ right now. but i know my way around an f-body too. i have always liked ls1tech.com better than camaroz28.com. even though its LS1tech their are ALOT of lt1 guys their. and i'm pretty sure its the largest 4th gen site. it just got to the point that all i used was ls1tech so i stopped going to the other sites.

andy your only chance from a dig is if he breaks crazy loose. and it seems like he has had the car for a wile and knows how it likes to be launched. might not be a great idea.
