Alright I have been it the Army for 7 years and now Uncle sam has decided to let me go because hey screwed up my Knee. I should be back in Ohio within the next month or so.
Well I am from Middletown but need to move where there is work. I just got a job offer at Scnider Trucking making pretty good money, but they want me to move to Columbus or Akron which is where they have locations I could work at. I dont really know shit about either town.
Which would be a better place to live? I am concerned about which is a better place to raise my 2 sons, which has a lower cost of living realestate wise. Any advice will be taken in to consideration on this very important life changing decision.
Pleasereply with facts and not just This place is awsome I need to know about the Economy of these areas and if its a good place to raise my sons.
By the way I am a diesel Technition not a truck driver

Fuck Akron, theres so much more to do in Columbus!
EDIT: Akron is kinda a shithole, not much happening there... all economic growth is happening in columbus, especially since the campus spans most of the city. Because of OSU, they strive to make the whole place nicer.

thanks for the advice I am getting ready to start checking out home prices there. I searched on Akron and all I read was Meth capitol of OH, and like over 80% of the states meth raids are conducted in Akron. Dont want my boy groing up there.

I live in Columbus and I love it. There are many great suburbs that are not too expensive. Even the places inside the outerbelt are pretty nice. Columbus Public Schools are not the best however, so I would try to get them into something other than those. They are improving, but still not the best. And like everyone else has said, the economy is booming in Columbus and the jobs are plentiful. Also, since you are in the trucking industry, Columbus is at the center of everything in the state so a lot of trucking happens right here. Plus there is a lot to do to keep you busy...including go out on summer nights with a bunch of people and have some fun

There is really nowhere trashy in Columbus like anywhere you would find in some of the Major cities of the US. If you just look at the home price and taxes in the area that is a good way to tell how nice it is. There are some spotty areas all over that aren't the best, but they aren't big either. If I were to move right now, I would look for a place in Clintonville. It is just north of Campus and the houses are nice but moderately priced as well.
Some of the most expensive places to live are Bexley, New Albany (kinda out of town a bit), Victorian Villiage, and German Villiage.
Where is your job located? I can give you some places to look around close to your job.
