Should be more than adequate esp if 500 is your goal. IMO, you should be on LS1tech in the lt1-lt4 forums asking....not here. If you're going apeshit nuts with the car down the road, it might be wiser to source a corvette lt1 block with the 4 bolt mains, but the 2 should be fine for the most part.

I still don't see why you wouldn't want to do a 383. It's not that much more $ and and it will show more gains with every modification. LT1s don't seem to live the longest with high RPM anyhow (not saying a built motor won't), but why not make more power lower.

You want to know why I call it dumb? Because I have to piss around with a fucking 302, that due to the fact I am short 44-48 cubes I have to spend much more than what I anticipated to be on the power levels of larger engines. Fucking 281s are even worse. So, if you are looking to make the most HP without taxing your engine, you'd be a fool to not go 383 and pick up the 33ci to use towards your goals, especially if you are already building the engine. It's not like you're doing heads cam and calling it a day. A healthy 350 ci h/c/i lt1 with AI or LE worked staged (II-III) heads will lay down around 400rwhp usually give or take. Doesn't take a genious to figure in that if you use your displacement advantage of the 383 with a bigger cam and some super work stockers/big runner aftermarket heads to see that you can do close to or at 500rwhp n/a

But hey, since we're all idiots and never been down any road, you just do as you please. :dickhead:

i want drivability outta my car... i don't want it to only be capable of doing the 1/4 mile... i want to drive it on the freeway... and other places.. a 383 would be great if all i did was take it to the track, but since i'm not just taking it to the track and are probably gunna drive it almost everyday i can i'm gunna make it a fun toy. i figure if i get my heads ported, and do a nice cam it should bump the hp up to about what i want...if not i'll keep doing more mods to it till it gets where i want it to... hell i'm not even sure i want 500hp... i may not like it if i'm driving everyday

i just find it funny that with all the BS that brett has posted in past, theres a serious question!

then when he gets a real answer, he wants to argue the facts.

i'm not after the fastest thing in the world but i usually shoot for the best bang for the buck, and that 383 stroker kit seems to be it!

So you want to RETAIN drivability by building a smaller motor to achieve the larger goals!?

Ha...haha..hahahahaahahaha!!

You do realize that you can make the same HP with a much more mild combo....right? Drivability is going to be soley dependent on cam choice and low lift airflow #s coupled with gearing. More cubes = smaller shit for the same, hp, you can run a more streetable gear (even the 3:42s) since you're gaining torque and....nevermind. The lt1 kids here must have some sort of disease. Maybe its good I sold mine before I got teh AIDz :?

It's like no one ever reads or researches or anything and then just banters on with nothing to back up their argument.

This is in the suggestion you are staying n/a....unless you are keeping it extremely tame and adding boost. Which I don't think is going to happen.

well... help me weigh this shit out.... i haven't looked into my block but im' assuming its a 2bolt main.... meaning i can't spin that fast.. so it would be better to just go with the 383. if i do a forged bottom end why wouldn't i be able to run boost in higher numbers??? christ i gotta buddy whose sprayin a 100 shot on his stock block

Look, a 100 shot isn't dick, especially on a stock block. A stock bottom of the barrel honda can take a 75 shot. A 2 bolt main is going to have limitations on the overall HP number (ie. I would go 4 bolt if I was doing some retarded 1000whp setup). People still make TONS of reliable power on 2 bolt. My friends z28 just did 728HP on 'lower' boost at the flyweel on a 2bolt. Non lt1, but very similar. It was just for the sake of argument as you had mention things about turbos and the latter, and if I was spending a ton, I'd prolly spend a little more.

I mentioned rpm only because lt1s with stock oiling (I don't know if the 4bolt has larger galleys/passages/feeds) they seem to take out bearings. You can run boost just fine on either, you'll obviusly just make more power with the stroker as you will displace more air at the same psi. I strongly suggest you go on LS1tech and readup.

this thread delivers!

First off, the eagle assembly will hold plenty, probably up to around 700hp~ no worries there. 2 bolt main will also be fine, even if your reving the car. i know guys running 800 wheel @ 7500+rpms on a 2bolt main with a girdle and its holding together just fine. (granted thats on a 60's block, the good strong shit) i dont know how strong those lt blocks are, or how good the oil flow is... thats something you're gonna have to read up on. Just make sure u invest in some arp studs for the caps

Picking up the 33 cubes isn't gonna do anything to your gas milage either. Like tom said, thats all head and cam. Hell, i have 4.11s in my car with a 6spd and i still run only 2500rpms @ 75mph on the freeway. if u have a 5speed with like 3.42-3.73s u'll be fine for freeway driving still. Not going the 383 route is just plain stupid. its allll about cubic inches. You want every last one u can get, cant make up for cubes! (us mustang guys can relate haha) More cubes = more gas/more air = more combustion power = more gains from any modifications you put on.

Going a 383 wont put hardly any more stress on the motor, your drivability/life of the motor wont be effected at all. Its pretty obvious you haven't really researched anything... the internet is a great place for shit like this. Take the time to read up on everything, u'll be surprised what u can learn.

my short gearing puts me a 4000rpm's at 75mph ( i really need to swap out that 5th gear for a longer one!) lol

i haven't had the time to research much yet.... thats why i asked u guys. but instead of telling me useful information you just call me stupid... and say i don't research anything.... most of my research goes into networking for right now until i can get a better paying job its guna be rough to come up w/ shit so why study for something thats gunna probably takes years to completely finish? It seems that going the 383 route won't be as bad as i thought, but i'll have to do more research on heads/cam to find out what combo i really want. and there will be some form of boost run on this motor... as of what i haven't really decided yet, but u can't throw a 100 shot at a motor w/ 120k on it thats been beaten on its whole life and expect it to run perfectly

i wish i would have had someone to answer questions. I sure wouldn't have pissed them off to the point that they didn't wanna help me anymore!

I've thrown away thousands and thousands of dollars chasing my goals because i didn't know what i was doing in past years & couldn't find the information i needed.

Earlier today I was going to make the point in this thread that it was asking for opinions and then didn't like the opinions given. I decided against it since I know nothing of what is being asked lolz.
