Issue: Bought 1.1mm thick Cosworth HG $200.00, 2 months later engine builder gives me the C/R, its too high. HG is unused still in unopened packaging. I call Cosworth requesting an exchange for the 1.5mm thick HG, they say no problem sending me a form for the exchange. A week goes by with no form, I call them back, they tell me to contact my supplier for accounting reasons and they will exchange it. Supplier fights with Cosworth for a week on the exchange. Cosworth backs out of their word, I get stuck buying another $200 HG....

I love getting fucked. I refuse to by Cometic (coolant leaking issues), Tomei and HKS gaskets are over priced, and weeks on order from most suppliers, and OEM simply will not do w/o o-ring......

btw another.. Oh yeah fucking retards with Christmas lights and shit up. Its not even fucking Thanksgiving yet. Fucking morons.

so why won't the oem head gasket due.. ?

i use auto parts specials (35 bux) on my boosted motors, we've ran 25+ lbs of boost & seen very high cyl pressures, never blown a head gasket related to boost. Only time we blew a gasket was when my buddy forgot to snug down a lower radiator hose and it came off while on the highway, engine temps of 240 killed it. Might wanna check your tune.

If there is some flaw in the oem gasket that i'm unaware of, void my comment! :)

OEM headgasket studded has be proven to low 20's psi wise. If I decide to run more its added reassurance, not to mention OEM does not offer a 1.5mm thick gasket to fix my high compression issue...

Tune will change, new tuner in the spring. I really want e85 to come locally. Like BAD.

I saw a show about a guy making bio diesal out of vegetable oil that he got from around his town for free.

I think it ended up costing him like 40 cents a gallon or something like that.

Don't take this the wrong way coz i know how it is to have a car that wants to fight you. It' s a royal pain in the ass but, if you think that the difference of .4mm in a HG is going to make enough of a compression differance (.26:1) to make a difference, your sadly mistaken. Not only will it not bring the compression to the area that your probably needing it to be, but your also using a weaker gasket. The thicker the head gasket, the more prone to failure because of the amount of pressure that it has agains the inner edges of it.

The correct way to solve an incorrect compression issue would be to change the pistons to ones that will yeild the compression that you want.

Either way ignition timing is probably off, and thats probably what caused high cyl pressures, which in turn led to head gasket failure.

Without being able to look at your plugs, listen to your motor ping, or watch the torque curves of your dyno graph, this is obviously speculation.

I'm here to lend an ear or help if i can.

Tony, that is all I need, it brings it down to 9:1 trust me I've done the calcs. Which is what I wanted. Other way was 9.28:1.

I never blew the head gasket either.... That was NEVER the issue. It was a lean issue when my exhaust cam shaft was cranked maxed retarded w/o me or my tuner knowing that just lead to the melting of pistons from ridiculous cylinder temperatures. Which lead to my upper ring leaking off all of my compression/power into the crank case and oil into combustion chamber and so on....

gotcha.. i was under the impression that there was head gasket failure issues.

Yea, i guess you'll just have to be super paranoid & check everything over really well. I'm suprized that it wasn't showing signs of this while on the dyno.

Do you have an EGT gauge in that thing?

Oh it was on the dyno, it cut the power in half. We went to almost 400hp at 5500rpms (never reved any higher since that was the last pull then the power went away) down to 225-230 ish... at the same boost pressure. The tuners were certain I was seeing valve float...... we checked everything minus the cam timing until basically it was too late when I found it 2 weeks later at home... No EGT gauge either. I should have never drove the car in this condition.

This time around I'm insuring this DOES not happen. I'd like to drive my car all summer.

Yeah, Id have been in it everyday if it ran. I did drive it everyday in end april/may when it drove. Rain or shine.

I'm sure you'll see it someday on the streets. I haven't given up quite yet. Looking for a good/new tune and a nice set of DR's for next year. Hopefully that is it... ha.
