thats my point. maybe if you wail on it you could get a lower 1.9 or a high 1.8 but even then your lookin at a 13.8 or maybe a 13.7.

theres only so much you can do with a 96 mph trap.

Yeah, I'd definately say just about any sort of driving event takes skill, even if you are auto and slow. Still have to react to the tree or learn to bracket race. I'd almost dare to say in drag racing it counts the most as you have the least amount of time and ground to cover any and all mistakes you might make ;)

Was a fun time out though for sure. Got a new pb out of the mustang, though once I figured out it liked more rpm I was out of passes lol. Shift that fucker at 6200+ vs 55-5600...holy crap. Picked up 4 mph just from 3rd gear

12.62 @ 113.3 I was happy considering the overall conditions of the shortblock

Trans is all installed, car seems to be running good, shifts nice.

Rob launched it on the track?

I'm done with the occasional beating, I'm driving it normal and that is it. I wont try to be Ken Block until I own an STI. These WRX's just arn't as durable.

I new they had glass trans, just didnt know how glassy until the ball fell in my own court. However 02-03 trans are about ~20% weaker due to slightly skinnier gear widths than 04+ years. ( I previous thought this was only 02 trans, however most of hte 03 trannies I came across had the same part # on them as my 02)

Balt21 wrote:wrx 5 speed + PPG straight cut 1st and 2nd, helical 3rd and 4th, stock 5th. DO IT!

I could have done that for $3500 bucks, I dont think so. I like the idea of owning an STI already coming stock with a trans thats as strong/stronger than that PPG. Not to mention the STI comes with a much stronger/better rear diff, and drive shaft. Where as you do the PPG trans, then still have the shit rearend in the WRX + 500 more dollars and you can swap it, then you need a different final drive in the WRX Trans to match the STI 3.90 final.

My synopsis. Drive the WRX nice, keep it under 280whp, or just start off with an STI and save yourself $$ in the long run if you built it.

Ah, don't feel too bad. I feel about $2500 worth of your pain with DSM transmissions :D

+111eleventy on starting with the Sti if you're making a 'racecar'....never made too much sense otherwise to me. Cheaper to get in the door at least though.

btw I left a businesscard on your cousins' WRX fucking with him thinking it was Noahs. Wonder if he'll call

Ohh yea I agree, I was just meaning that if I were to be between an STi 6 speed or PPG gearset for a wrx i'd go for the PPG because i'd be more likely to drag race than road race it.

That's my plan, hopefully in the spring i'll find an STi to buy.

Hah, I hope my brother knows this info. His shits sure to grenade soon with 100k+ 02 tranny that gets autocrossed on weekends. Shit's about to go kaboom. I kept telling him to get the sti...

So turbo Subarus don't seem to be the way to go for long time longevity?

Yea my 2.0 didn't seem to like flat spins or the limiter very much.... but I'm sure if I drove it a bit nicer it woulda went 200k+. Hell my old wagon went from 195k to 225k miles without an oil change, I just added as needed. I wouldn't advise this.... that car saw the limiter ALL the time, I held it to the limiter for a good 10 minutes straight on the way to the junk yard, bitch wouldn't die.

From what I see subaru lacks metal quality the most. Shit likes to rust fast... bolts like to break often.... My 20 year old 200K plus 240's never had this issue.
