Polishing Aluminum?

Postby BOOST3DWRX » Mon Apr 21, 2008 10:24 pm

Does anyone know if I can pull this off myself? My intercooler is Aluminum but it is the dull rough Al not a polished, what do I have to use on it to get the roughness off to polish it up to a shinny?

do it yourself, I polish all of my stuff.

go to TIP and ask them what you need, you start with a rougher wheel then work your way up to a high polish wheel. They give you rough compound and final compounds. The stuff is decently expensive, but a hell of a lot cheaper than paying someone else to do it. Make sure you wear goggles and go some place that can get dirty. Polishing makes a HUGE mess.

Oh yeah I used my 6" bench grinder removed the shields and made my own polisher. No need to buy some expensive sucker if you don't have too.

Good luck!

no, dont do that. Your fingers will be bleeding and your arms will be killing. Use a machine, it goes 1000x faster, with more consistent results.

^Haha, mabey Cory!

I would like to go bigger than a 35R, but I think the only smart way to do that would be do go with a Full Race's twin scroll manifold (= stupid $$). right now im thinking a 35r with a large hotside. It all depends on which company im working for this/next year!

Could always go the same route I did so you have the t4 option, and hotside is the same as a 40r .68. Maybe my numbers will help you decide more once this stupid thing comes back.
