Your combo is definately mismatched.

Honestly shooting for that powerband, you are not going to pull well up top. Those heads (assuming they were worked correctly) should be 'ok' but the runner is a tad small to really make any power on anything less than a mild 350; which is what you've put together. Did you see how your intake runners match the heads in that case? That cam is going to need to go if you are going to get serious with anything. IIRC most chevy cams seem to run alot of duration and not a ton of lift, your's is barely getting it done for a car with 350ci to move air with. I'm sure it has good drivability though. For instance, I have a 'mild' cam in my 302. its .499/.510 221/223 @ .050 and that's like a 6000rpm peaking cam or at least it would be advertised around a 5800-6000rpm selection. Your going to need something around .270 @ .050 ot make some real power with that thing. Hopefully the heads are done well and not botched which could make it lazy aswell. You can go VERY fast with iron heads, but what you've put together would better suit a 305 buildup if I was trying to go fast. I think if you dug around and swapped a few things, it'd really come to life. That and make sure the cam will suit an auto well.

Right now, you have a much ligher car than a 4th gen that's prolly making 280hp. Brett would benefit a LOT from a tune with the LTs , but given his trap; he's within 1mph of a dead stock car. I'm also pretty sure you can't get much more valve into a vortec casting, but I could be wrong, but I would shoot for larger valves, have those actually opened up (I run a 165cc runner on a 302 and I fell it will be limiting even on my 331 setup planned), port match or replace that intake and get a real cam. Then it will flash that converter harder and you can get some tires and run half decent.

I trapped 105.1 in a car that weighed more than yours with only a 302 on a 'mild' combo with decent heads. You should be able to be close to that easy with 50 more cubes to make up for things. Just food for thought.

Also I do realize the 1.6s are .10 larger for the lift etc, but it's not going really do what it needs. I guess I shouldn't really call your setup mismatched; as it actually matches each other well, except the heads. It's just not what you might use to get down to business 8-)

Well i did want a set of better flowing heads but i got these for a good deal and they beat the shit out of the smog heads that were on it. from summit these heads are good to .520 lift but the guy i bought them from said they we milled and good to .550 lift. Right now its about .522 lift with the rockers so I dont really want a bigger cam than that just incase the heads cant handle it. the intake is gasket matched to the heads but still the ports are kinda small. It pulls great up to 5300-5500 then kinda dies out a little. i take first gear up to about 6100rpm so when it hits second its still in the upper r's. (700r4's 1st to second gear is really far apart.) i want the lunati bracket master II cam. it comes with the powermax top end kit. Its a .490 lift 240 duration @.50 and 112 lobe seperation so it should be good to what i want. i just dont really want to spend the money on it.

My heads are my killer for now. Like i said they are way better than my smog heads but in the end there just truck heads. I realy dont think i'll need a bigger cam. i guy i know who goes to quaker runs a 84 z28 with near my setup. he has a $80 summit cam with .480 lift and around 230 some duration @.50 and a 200c trans 3.73 locked with cast 2.02 heads, just summit 2.02's he runs 12.7's all day.And he uses a quadrajunk! so IDK about a huge cam. its just ur combo, which mine matches decent

heads would be what i would want to buy ( if i had some money ). But im broke for now. And i still need a little stall to match my cam now. IDK im just goin to finish up the season like it is them this winter i mess with it and it just depends on how much money i can get. Then ill make it faster. I need to find something cheap to drive for this winter still. Why does it have to snow, i dont want to put my car away for 4 months

Well, sick heads do make all the differnce as you are right; I just think you could maybe squeeze a little more back out is all. My buddy has been tinkering with his third gen since we were like 15 and I've seen all sorts of his setups from mild to the currently wild. I just think you should be able to get that thing at least around 101-103 with some work on that setup is all. Bigger valves would def help though for sure. Your head 'limit' you speak of is really only determined by your valvespring and how much clearance you have. I guess with flattop pistons though you might have some issue unless they have valve reliefs.

I will say it is very hard to compare street cars to a dedicated drag car. Having a locker and prolly a stripped car helps, but you also have to look past the ET and see what his MPH is. That will tell you how much power he is really making or at least give you a ballpark based on the cars' guesstimated weight.

well they have reliefs in my pistons. And the other z28 at the track is a street car. All interior and everything it just has a locker. It like a brand new car it so nice.

thanks man. i saw your car a few times but no one was standing near it whenever i walked by. yeah ive seen that conquest out there for the past few years. he has been running that thing forever. im actually surprised that it broke, i ALWAYS see that car when i go to quaker. when i raced him in round one of no box earlier in the year he ran a 10.2x, that car straight hauls ass. it sounds soooo amazing when it spools before he launches.

the air was great last night, not surprising you ran your best. about 5 guys i talked to said they ran their best. i did too, i got an 11.58 later in the night.

DO THE T-5 SWAP!!!! DO IT!!!! I love the fact that my car is 5-speed, i will never change it. like tom said though, relocate that bar thing that goes to it, and make sure you get a good tranny not some garbage from a 4cyl s-10 or something.

NO WAY!!! Wow i didnt think t5's were good to 11 seceond cars.
Well is it a g-force t5 or whats done to it? It handles slicks with high rpm launches so something good has to be done to it.

Thats it??? I thought the WC t5 were rated at like 240 ft lbs in the camaros and like 300 ft lbs in the cobras. u got a shit load more than that and slicks! Well if ur holds up to that then a WC t5 should be FINE with my motor. Thats more than likely what im goin to end up doin. well anyway did u get urs rebuilt and if so by who and how much. I got a Non WC t5 that needs rebuilt. I got it looked at and i guess it just needs bearings. the guy said the gears looked great.
Let me know.
