The Return of the Steel Valley Super Nationals.. TO CANFIELD

So its official, this event is over. Swindell has done a fine job of ruining yet another event, actually nowadays the ONLY event at Quaker, that was actually worth going to and had an amazing turnout. This guy is such a shyster its almost unbelievable, this is a new low even for him. In case you dont watch the news or read the local paper, Swindell made an underhanded deal with the mayor of the city of Salem, to steal the steel valley supernationals event and rebrand it the Quaker City Super Nats. Why is the mayor of Salem involved? So that they can take over complete operations of the so-called After Party in Salem. Now the only event that I really looked forward to is gone, thank you Swindell.

Lame, but I hated it in Salem anyhow...it's a giant clusterfuck and you can't 'cruise' at all.

Fucking swindell, hes always got some shady shit going on at Quaker, ever since he shut down the track two years ago hes been doing an extra shitty job with the track.

I really wish he would have just let that other guy buy it back then, it would have been sooooooooo much better.

It seems like every event that goes there gets shit on, no wonder they dont have anything. Night of fire (the legitimate one, not the shit show Quaker does now), Superbowl of Sound, that Mopar one (i forget what it was called), ROck and Ribs fest, and now the Super nationals.

Some possibility that the event may be moved back to Canfield, but the Quaker stint is over. The track will put on some lame ass show next year, realize they fucked it up, and then it will be over.

From the above article:

"The Steel Valley Super Nationals at Quaker City Raceway is unfortunately over for Salem," Ward said.

"The Steel Valley Super Nationals were brought here by us," Caiazza said. "The Super Nationals is ours."

"That show costs a lot of money," he said. "People don't know what it costs. You have to ask if it is a matter of money, why is the city getting rid of the two people with all the money?"

"There is a community not far from here interested in welcoming the event back," Ward said.

Whats the big deal? It's supposed to be at the track anyway.

The big deal is that first of all swindell A)stole this event from local promoters, and B) doesnt know how to run a show the size of the Super Nats. They suck at putting on large events, shit they can barely keep it together for their own weekly program.

In addition, even if he had the knowledge, or even brought in someone with the knowledge to promote and run it, he still doesnt have the time, vendor connections, business connections, promotional know how, or the bankroll to back this event. This event was not a Mahoning county event, it was advertized in and drew people from several states. You think QCR has the facilities to keep this an event like it has been? This year wasnt as great a turnout due to weather, but remember 2 years ago? There were cars as far as to the tree lines at Quaker, that whole place was filled, I have never seen Quaker that packed or even close in the time I have been going to the track, and I have been going since I was a little kid.

Not to mention the absolute shameful business practice of STEALING someone else's event. That part of it was totally fucked up, that alone will keep me from going to this thing, even if it turns out to be a good show which is highly doubtful based on their track record.

There is talk of it possibly going back to Canfield and therefore 224. nothing official yet. I think the guys who actually OWN the show are trying to regroup and figure out what the next move is after getting this bombshell dropped on them.

Though still unofficial, I have found out that this show WILL be returning to canfield, and therefore 224 in Boardman. I think more details need to be worked out. Will pass on more info as I get it.

regardless all the cops and the state troopers hate it and will continue to run it out of the town.

it's not worth the tickets.

Who knows, it might be better this time (with respect to teh cops) around because maybe Boardman and Canfield realized how much $$$ the local businesses missed out on due to the event leaving

they were idiots for getting rid of it in the first place, locals complained about noise/disturbance/recklessness and petitioned the boardman trustees to kill it... and it worked. i remember having a conversation with the guy who owned a&w shortly after supernats died, he said that week was = to almost half a years worth of profit for him.

i'd love to see this come back, but like stated earlier, i dont think it'll be quite the same.

I just recently got word. Super Nats will be back at the Canfield fairgrounds. This event planning is also going to be worked in conjuction with the Canfield and Boardman police to help alleviate problems from years past (tickets & other problems). Cruising on 224 like in years past.

Dates for the 2010 show are June 25-27.

im all for cops. but when i was little i remember driving in my uncles 69 camaro ss with him up and down 224 during what i guess was supernats. i was too young to really know anything about it. we got pulled over for a loud exhaust. i remember seeing a cop pulling someone over then 3 cops flying down that street and 1 on foot running down there. its like they were just pulling everyone over that day trying to get rid of everyone.

lol @ grand ams.... But yes last time under different management/ownership it was a cluster fuck. Considering the success the show was in Salem under the new management in years past, I have high hopes for this event in Canfield to be very much different than the show that was at Canfield 5 or more years ago.

....... I dont know if they can do anything about the parade of civics and grand ams though......
