I don't think I'd give shep any more $.

Try the TRE option

OH MAN! thats rough, I thought shep was god?

Shep is THE best trans guy around.

If there was a problem with the trans, Shep would have warrantied it.

MORE THAN LIKELY though, the clutch and/or shifter cables needed adjusting. Synchro's just magically don't start grinding, but the absolutely shitty aftermarket clutches for DSM's are usually to blame.

Keep in mind one good mis-shift can wipe out synchros, and/or a poor disengaging clutch can slowly wear them out. A change in fluid could have made the previous damage more evident.

Should I have blamed Shep when I couldn't shift my car above 8500rpm? No, that's the problem of the clutch.

Just putting this out there before a bunch of stupid rumors get tossed around.

BTW, TRE has that great 3 month wait time usually, and you have a greater chance of banging a supermodel in Youngstown than you do of Jon @ TRE answering the phone.

:)

I like this topic cuz i just dealt with both shops recently and still haven't decided where to take my tranny. I was all set on shep until he said he would match competitors pricing, and then he told he couldn't match TRE's stage 3 tranny pricing :( . The big kick in the ass is I have a 90 transmission and you have to upgrade the center diff in order to upgrade anything else. I definately want evo3 1st,3rd and 4th gears, 4 spider diff and double synchros and RIPGRIP would be nice too. Most likely i'll go to shep just because i can physically drop it off, but who knows how much i'm going to pay.

Seems like the general consensus on tooners and talk was that TRE's were better, but i've read good and bad on both.

Yea when i had a 2g, blew my tanny to pieces. Just had a stock rebuild and sold the car for my evo. But through the research it seems like TRE may be the way to go. There is go and bad about both. I knw SHEP u pay alil more, but is tht because its better work??? My friend went w/ a TRE, and said its better than the 1st day he owned the car.

sorry... been a while... but as for a shep trans... my friend brian as a 96 awd and has sheps stage 2 in it. car hit 560 something h.p. with an almost equal amount of torque on the dyno. the trans has never failed. thing is sick. then again... if i dropped 20 something k on a freaking '96 it better be sick, too! :mitsu:
