Spark plugs

Postby KatieLovesHP » Mon Jun 02, 2008 9:21 pm

Hey all...

Finally have time to work on the WRX and it's about time to change my spark plugs. I thought I'd check and see if there were any brands in particular you've had any success with as far as feeling a noticeable change? Or are there any you've had bad experiences with? I've got a few thousand miles before this becomes 'mandatory', but I figured I'd start looking into my options now.

Depending on what mods you have always run with ngk iridiums. The saying goes on subaru's, for every 100hp over stock you need 1 heat range colder plugs. If your a stage 2 1 step colder plugs wont hurt you but id at least wait until your stage 3 to run those. once you get into stage 4 subaru's its pretty much a must have. DO NOT GET DENSO IRIDIUM PLUGS as they do not come pre gapped like the ngk's do. on iridium plugs there is a small micro weld holding the part you gap onto the plug itself. When gapping that there is a potential of cracking or weakening the weld. End result could be that piece falling off into your cylinder and then uh-oh. Hope this helps

gotta be careful with those " pre gapped spark plugs" my ngk tr55's that i have in the car supposedly were pregapped one read.055 the other read .07 and a few were inbetween.... no way i'm putting a thousandth of inch difference in my car w/o checking it first

I don't know why people insist on running Iridium's. Such a waste personally. Coppers are just fine and about 10% of the price. I've never had a problem having to gap plugs either...

I always check the gap reguardless as the preset gap may be off a little bit due to shipping ect.
good point to put out there tho, Just because they say pregapped always doublecheck

I changed my plugs last night in the subie. Let me tell you WHAT a fucking job. Pain in my ass changing plugs with a frame rail in the way...

Anyways, I developed a growing misfire when cold, and then it grew to under WOT. Changed plugs to a bkr7e (one step colder) NGK number cross refereneced to an ACdelco. Let me tell you a WORLD of improvement, car drives so much nicer, and no more fucking misfire.

Now If only I can get my one headlight adjusted properly....

I'd bet the subies is more of a pain, only plus side is we only have 2 on each side. :P

lol LT1's suck.... so im' just gunna wait till i rebuild the motor since i'm not gunna be driving it i don't care... let hte springs go... blah blah blah i'ma get the block honed n everything so carbon buildup doesn't matter..... is it bad that i'd rather rebuild my motor than change the plugs?
