focus build

Postby PontiacChris » Fri Jun 12, 2009 2:40 pm

ive been staying away from this site for the mere fact my car isnt performance. but id figure id post up what ive been working on. im sure you all have seen my best friends pink focus. its getting there. got everything primed yellow except the hatch which we're shaving like the rest of the car. got every single piece of interior ready for paint, and got the box finished last night. id say for our first fiberglass box (which we carpeted for now) it turned out good. for two kids in highschool making minimum wage, its a SLOW process. it will most likely be turboed by fall or we'll wait till next year to rebuild the entire engine and put in a 6 speed.

ill post up more pics when the cars getting closer to being finished. hate all you want <3

if you have the money, that wont be a problem. if your short its a pain staking process. basically you build whatever out of mdf base, buy felt, hot glue it to it. put a coat of resin on the felt, before it dries, put fiberglass on and take a paint brush with resin and go over the fiberglass soaking it in to the felt. then let it set for 24 hours or more. sanding is a bitch. you have to have a decently good sander. then use bondo and icing to make low spots and high spots even. that box probably costs us 200-300 to make including all materials. a box like that in a shop would sell for 600-700. its good money if you get good at it. make sure you wear latex gloves and dont be stupid like we did and do it in a garage without masks. a cheap respiratory mask is good enough. ive seen your model cars. im sure you could make some pretty good fiberglass projects.

I know it was a 351 in the vid. 5.0's are cheap to build.
