QuakerCity Thursday's Program 2010

Postby Slick Nick » Mon Dec 07, 2009 3:57 pm

So I was talking to the folks at Quaker and I have some info regarding the new schedule for next year.

So far what has been decided is that they will have a Test&Tune/Grudge Racing night for this 2010 season. It will be on Thursdays and probably be similar to what they have done in the past.

They are not sure of the details of the program yet, but they do know that they are doing something. This is good news, and from the sounds of it, they are waiting to see what kind of response they get and possibly structure the event differently than just a test and tune night.

It actually sounds like they might be open ideas (im hoping that they are), so what would you guys like to see, since from the sounds of it not much has been established yet?

If I can get some ideas and real interest, we might be able to get something done that would actually be cool to go to instead of the same drawn out BS that usually takes place.
Err please stop fueling my silent rage..

The grudge racing thing sounds better than just test and tune. Having some kind of structure rather than "we are all here to go down the track against random people" will draw more of a crowd. I would like to see them go back to the street wars program they had before. They had the classes split up into street stick, street auto, sport compact, and then the "quick 8". That way everyone could race in the normal classes and the fastest 8 street cars got their own class. It made it sorta fair since some of the slower automatic cars are really consistent, and everyone wanted to make it into that quick 8. Which at the time wasn't as hard as you'd think. Then street stick and street auto winner would run at the end, similar to how they do the no box and box classes on Fridays now. That way you don't have a 14 second poultry fornicator next to a 10 second open header trailer queen, both of whom feel like they shouldn't be matched up this way.

Shit even having a domestic class and import class should bring alot of people out. Have the winner of each class face off in the finals. If they are not going to have real cash prizes, like those 25 dollar gift cards to summit nobody gives a fuck about, they should find other ways to get people to want to win. T-shirts, stickers (ricers love those), stuff like that. I'm sure a QCR Import/Domestic/Quick 8 Champion 2010 sticker would look good on our cars, people seemed to rock the QCR 100 MPH CLUB stickers pretty hard. Another thing I have no clue why they quit doing, could the stickers really be that much? Just charge people a dollar for them or something to offset the cost.

Another thing is if they are truly going to have this be a street car test and tune grudge racing type of night, they should keep it that way, even if it costs them money. What I mean is telling guys with rail cars and true drag cars that they can't show up on Thursday to get in some test and tune runs with all the of the street cars. Thats the kind of shit that drags the even out all night and pisses everyone off.

I agree with a lot of what you said bill, but i dont think that they should keep people from racing though. That will never happen, they are not going to piss off their customer base. Plus I dont really think that it would create a problem by them being there, just put them in their own class. You really wouldnt want to turn people away anyways, the more people that are there the better. I would like to see a program like this:

Street Stick
Street Auto
Quick 8 Street - only if they have a large turnout
Modified - only class restriction is that you cant run a delay box
Test & Tune
*330' 30mph Ricer Roll* - only if enough interest

Entry fee - $15

To keep entry fee down = No payouts (this is a huge deal), all class winners and runner ups get trophies. I mean trophies dont cost that much, especially if you buy a fuckload of them... like on a busy night you would need 8 trophies... thats probably like $30 for decent ones. Thats 2 entries, and people love trophies.

As Bill said earlier, people also love stickers especially the 100 mph club ones. Have qualifing runs for the stickers, if you enter and break 100mph you pay 2 bucks for the sticker. I think its magnolia that does it like this, or dragway 42....

T-shirts are also a winner, people LOVE free t-shirts, everyone who races give them a t-shirt, if you buy ones that arent too fancy and buy like a thousand at a time, you could probably get them for a couple bucks. Plus it would be a great way to get the word out about the event. It would cut into the margin a little bit, but if thats a problem only do the free t-shirt thing like for the first event, then once a month after that.

Baby steps first, baby steps. Besides, 150 mph street cars... how many of those stickers do you think that theyd hand out.

They cant go from no stickers to 3 levels of stickers. That would be a total mind blow for them i think.

Having higher mph stickers is a great idea. There is no reason to make the jump that big either. I would start at 80 mph lol, even people with slow cars could appreciate that its still funny. I would go from 80-140 in increments of 10. If I ran that track and a street car showed up that trapped over 150, I would ask him for his address and mail him the sticker after I had it made lol.

Like I was telling you on the phone Nick, I think alot of people with true street cars look at the drag cars how we look at junior dragsters. Annoying and dragging the day out longer than it needs to be. I'm not saying tell them to fuck off, but there should just be a limited test and tune for the few of them that absolutely need to make some passes on the street car night.

Another good idea would be that the winner and runner up could get in the next week for free. That's like a double win for the track because they don't really have to pay out of pocket, and it keeps people coming back. You might even be able to take it further than that, like the top 4 or something get a free pass good for a few weeks. I guess it would all depend on how big the turnout is.

There are about ten million things the people at Quaker could do better, if I could choose one it would be sell the fucking track to someone who isn't a stupid piece of shit.

What I was saying to Bill yesterday, is that we need to talk to people, both on here and other people we know that would be interested, and figure out a basic idea that we all think would be good to do. Then once a baseline is established of certain details of the program that we would all like to see, people need to call quaker, ask about the thrusday program, and tell them that idea.

Like i said before, they sound open to ideas, and I'm going to talk to them some more about the Thrusday program. But I think that what would really help our cause if we get a bunch of people to call and say close to the same thing. Like even if 10 or 20 people call and say pretty much the same thing, they might say wow look at the response we are getting from all these people, maybe we should do that.

So heres a base summary for the Thursday program from what i gather so far:

We would want this to have an emphasis on a street car night. Classes include at least street stick, steet auto, and Quick 8 (like last time). Or Imports and Domestics, but some division of street cars for fairness. Trophies, t-shirts, or free entry to the class winners and runner-ups would be cool. We want them to bring back the QCR 100 MPH Club stickers for street cars. NO SET LIMIT ON TIME RUNS like on fridays.

We all bitch about Quaker, but now they might actually consider ideas giving us a chance to make it better.

How the fuck did I not say that? That's one of the more annoying things they have started doing lately, you spend more money than other tracks, wait longer, run slower times going uphill, and to top it off you get LESS passes in! If they didn't try to "save money" by cramming everything into Friday night they wouldn't have to limit people to just 2 passes.

So as of right now quaker is calling this thing a Grudge Racing/Test and Tune night. I told the lady on the phone about some ideas for the event, asking about trophy classes, a quick 8 for street cars, etc. and she said it depends on the response they get from this. She also said she was going to relay the info to the owner and see what he thinks. We need to get more people to call.

Call them and ask them about it. 330-332-5335

street trophy classes(stick & auto), street quick 8, 100 mph stickers, etc

There are plenty of bike nights though, they have one at each quaker (Austintown and Sharon) two different nights a week, plus like a bunch more. Bring the bike to quaker!!

I have, it went 11.4 with a shitty launch (first time) & stock everything other than pipe at the time. If gearing was adjusted it's supposed to do 10.6 with a decent launch.

I see no point in doing it over and over unless i made a bunch of changes and wanted to find out how much of an improvement i made.

QCR updated their website recently and I just got done talking to them about the thursday program... First its only $15 to race/test and tune on thursdays, and the track will be open until 1030

In addition to test and tune, this is what they have listed on the website
----
Quickest 12
Winner $50/ R-Up Trophy

Street Legal
Trophy for Winner & R-Up

High School
Trophy for Winner & R-Up

Bike
Trophy for Winner & R-Up
-----

So its pretty much a trophy night, and the quick 12 will be open to all cars i guess not just street cars is what they said to me on the phone.... so its better than nothing, and i imagine if there is a lot of support for this thing they might make it a quick 16 street class or add to the program. but anyways, just keeping you guys posted.
