He always wanted an sn95, his z28 had a few issues like the window motors and the fiberglass it mounts to being all fucked up, some so-so bodywork on the 1/4 and the car had the usual ls1 piston slap. Couldve used a good clutch. Was overall a little rough around the edges. Fun car though and responded very well to mods.
I told him he would prolly regret it, but the cobra is a VERY clean car. The stangs are infinately easier to work on, and if theres a problem you can fix it easily and usually on the cheap. I can't fault him for the t-tops and how it drives though as I dislike mine for the same...its like driving a lowered sedan and not a sports car.
For what he has in it, I thought the car ran pretty damn good using alot of stock parts. That said though, the GM cars pick up ALOT more power for the mods. You just
can't get it done on no cubes unless you twist it to the moon n/a.
From a go-fast standpoint I think the LS1 makes better bolt on cars, but gets pretty $$$ once you have to build the engine or even buy a power adder as they cost alot more. Once you add some boost to the stang (as long as its healthy unlike mine) they get REAL nasty. The block becomes a limiting factor then. I personally feel the stang is a better platform to drag with even though it is harder to make power at first.
For a street car I feel the f-body is a much more fun platform with the t-tops, the better suspension layout for handling, the factory brakes (vs. a GT ) the 6spd, milage, and bolt on capability. I also think they look sexy as shit done right. I do hate to work on them though, and when something is wrong, its a whore to troubleshoot vs the stangs with the more old school setup to them (obviously 5.0s only here).
I purchased my T/A like 2yrs after owning my stang and I kinda wish that's where I had started from. The grass is always greener, but I enjoyed driving my T/A alot more everyday. I also love open air and quite frankly I've wanted a black WS6 car since I was in 8th grade, and when the ls1 style came out I knew I
HAD to have one. I still don't know why I don't as Ive pissed away quite a bit of $ on my car. I actually sold my LT1 because it kinda sucked compared to the refinement of my brothers ls1, and I wasnt driving my mustang.
I really want to go get the car I've always wanted, be it slower or not. I also might skip it and go to a C5 but money is getting tight currently with the bills/work/need a real home situation. I am a vette freak first and foremost and spent much my youth drooling over my dad's 1969 stingray....which he sold like a month ago
I 'like' mustangs. Never was dead set on them. Love a clean foxbody. But I can appreciate them and I'm glad I've tried them as it's no fun to limit yourself. If going fast was my only concern, I'd honestly build another DSM. Period. Those go the fastest for the cheapest hands fucking down all day. Not nearly as nice of a car though as the others for refinement.
It whistles while it WORKS.
I suck.
