Lol, that's not the "cheap" I meant. I meant price wise. Not quality.

well tonight i say im gonna do some work on the car and get the motor back in one piece. i put head gasket on and the start putting head bolts in and try to tighten them and bam problem. i say mother fucker. take the head off and the head bolts are not long enough since my new block has been drilled and tapped for bigger headstuds. which i did buy the bigger ones. just oem ones tho. they dont even reach to the threads.

so now my nexy option is to buy a 400 dollar set of race wear studs :bsflag:

ohh poopys

theres no way in hell i'd pay 400 bux for some strong head bolts. Just think about that! Does any of it really make sence, what do you have 10 of them.. why does one bolt cost 40 bux! i garentee they have go valid answer!

ARP has to have some studs or be able to make them if you give them the thread info and lenth of stud, i bet they already have soemthing in their inventory that will work for your application.

i'm gonna have to agree with tony and cory here, arp has to make something... even if they're not specifically for you car. Take measurements, they'd at least be able to tell you what to buy to make it work. Paying 400 dollars for bolts is just plain idiotic

well i talked to a couple vw engine builders and it seems that vw may have sold the wrong bolts. the bolts i got i think are for an o58 block and i have an 06a block, just new version. but the head studs were lengthened. so im waitin on some measurements in the mean time.

so here is what we cam up with, the ones i was sold are the o58 on the left and the normal ones for my block are in the middle, the ones i will possibly have to go with are on the right but will need trimed down.

Left= 058 Bolt, 11x 1.5mm x 100.6mm
Middle= 06A Bolt 10x 1.5mm x 120.6mm
Right= 2.7T Bolt 11x 1.5mm x 138.4mm
Image

dave ill give u a call tomorrow, if you can find a set of arp studs or whatever that are 11x 1.5mm x 125.0-130.00mm. that would be nice

well made my way to summit today in the storm to get the set of arp head studs that they actually had in stock. got home and thought things were gonna go well..... but then after putting the studs in and the gasket and then the head. i was getting happy! then all of a sudden i look at the nuts for the studs and try and put one on. ya the fuckin nuts are bigger then the holes in my head. so i cant get the nuts on the studs now. fuck

hmm im confused, i know on my dsm and integra the nuts dont have to go into the head holes, they are what anchors the head to the block.. hows your unit work?

i'd be leary due to oil and coolant passages.. If someone can verify that they arn't in the way then i'm all for that idea.

not if the hole was bigger and the nut was resessed down in. (thus the questioning about removing material that may expose existing coolant and oil passages)

Not if you installed the head/torqued it down before installing the cams.

Like Tony said, id check on this to make sure you don't drill through a passage.

Reason for going bigger studs in the first place? I assume already drilled/tapped your block for them?
