Finally saw one of these things in person at Superfly.

My take.

WTF was GM thinking?! Fake rear brake ducts? Fake ram air? WTF. Rice machine? Fail on all ends, had a good base from the concept, but come the fuck on. A performance car with extra fake enhancements to feel more "sporty". They should have placed on a larger fake cow, along with a nice roof scoop to complete this pos. Maybe some Buick fender ducts would really spice it up. I'm not sure if they are trying to market the car to performance idiots, or performance enthusiasts.

It becomes clearer to me why they are a sinking ship. What happened.........

all of the new ones i've seen don't have those. so my guess is they are optional, n the owner of the car is a jackass

Dont think so, it was an autotragic 1SS. Check out GM's site and look at it. The rear brake vents were sprayed with a bit of black to appear that they were actually slotted. It made me want to vomit. This could be something the owner did, but there definitely were no actual slots there going through the quarter...

The black inlet on the hood/front bumper was nothing but another fake vent as well. Similar to that of older v6 stangs on the hood, maybe even newer ones. (i've never cared to look at them that closely)

Well the rear 'vents' have always been an asthetic on the older cars, so no suprise there. Not sure on the black paint end as the one I saw they were body color. I doubt anyone ever meant for them to be functional.

The fake hoodscoop is bunk tho! I wouldve figured that was at least fuctional....all that is, is increased drag

Listen man, you can say your beloved GM is so badass. But for the HP it makes, its fat weight is well noticed. IE its not that fast!

I'm sorry but fake non functional aesthetic items are LAME. Bottom line, its exactly what rice is, non functional pointless mods just for looks. If your going to stamp a fender to look like its race inspired you might as well go the extra mile to make it functional. That is all I'm saying. Cowl hood is different, I didn't look at the backside of it to check if that was fake as well. I wouldn't be surprised if it was. The "black air duct" sure was fake though.

As a buyer, and a race car enthusiast I would be immediately turned off by what I saw. To the average Joe, or hardcore GM fanatic it might not be that big of a deal, but for a company that still needs to win a consumer over it failed to do so for me.

You can say what you want about other brands, your naming cars I don't drive, so go ahead name more, waste some more time. I will not be offended.

I wouldn't go so far as to imply what Cory thinks about different vehicles bud. Unlike some he actually understands why most shit is there or isn't and actually has some background in mechanics and the latter. Ratting off 100 cars with hoodscoops doesn't mean dick. And half of those are actually functional items on them so w/e.

He's bitching about the opening in the facia pre-hood on the SS models. NOT the cowl. Nearly all GM cars are bottom feeders but obviously some see some ram-air packages. I wouldve thought this was tied into the airbox, he must've aswell. As for the cowl hood; it better damn be sealed shut in the rear! You understand how those work right? Hold that thought, then thing about a car that is drawing air from an entirely different place, but has a huge frontal mass so the last thing you want is to create MORE pressure under the hood. It's not going to vent well either if it's open as the windshield is going to create a vaccum. Point becomes moot.

I agree that the weight thing sucks, but light ass cars are gone. People want saftey and too many gizmos. Same reason why my DSM and that 240 feels like a shitcan inside. Yeah it's a little viscreal driving the older car, but people aren't going to hand over 30k for something designed in this millenium that creaks and cracks and everything else. Put that thing on a diet and go rock out. Folks tend to forget how freaking much other shit weighs that is otherwise 'coveted' like the terminator cobras and GT500s tanking at 3900lbs + You want a light V8 rwd car, buy a corvette and wipe floors. Just be ready to pony up $$.

The single biggest turnoff to me anyhow is the damn interior. I HATE HATE HATE 1969 interiors with a passion and it doesn't look any better 40yrs later. Musclecars got big, but so did everything else. That and I swear shit gets uglier and uglier. Try to make something edgey and modern and that's what you get, but eventually you warm up to it. I think 370z's are gross and gaudy next to a 350z. They made it smaller and it added weight too. Evo's went from boy racer to bloaty and odd. The new skyline?!! TANK.

I feel like I'm going to die when I'm facing oncoming traffic in my tiny, no air-bags, 'lightwight' , laser.......a freaking Cobalt would tear that thing in half. Live the automotive romance as you will, but be ready to be stuck in the goldenyear of your era of automobiles, for us thats about 1994- present....and shit is a changing.

All of the retro remakes are teh overweight miles of excess body and cheesy vents and gas doors. Americans are stupid. I want to go back to Africa.

BMW's and other import "sports cars" have also gotten heavier over the years. The new Z4 is heavier then the old one [although it is getting a more powerful engine]. Are the fender vents on the M3 functional? How about the RX8 and GTR? I don't think GM is advertising the SS hood scoop as being ram air.
