Yeah, DSM's don't do that unless you jump time...exactly as Cory said, it's an interference style engine. Lokks like you had it twisted up good when it broke lol...

I've had it happen a couple times, but at low rpm/starting. I just had to lightly file the pistons and I was good to go after a revalve

BUY A BRAND NEW OEM TENSIONER!!!!!! (when you replace the belt)

thats a big 'ol mess... pretty crappy that you have to deal with that.

on a lighter note, i think i have an extra honda emblem if u just wanna slap that on the hood, it problly won't break so much!

But only 1 tooth? I've read soo many threads on tuners about people running with 1 tooth off and it only causes it to run bad..

1 tooth is only like 7-8 degrees of timing i think? it shouldn't have caused major assplosion like that...

theres no explosion there, only metal smashing more metal. If the belt jumped time, due to (tensioner failing, improper tensioning, some type of shock load on the engine) that's what causes that other than simply snapping the belt itself, or sheering the bolts off the cam gears. (very not likely)

well what i meant was, thats a hell of alot of dmg for only being off one tooth... it probably was off more than that

It can jump appx 4 teeth before bending a valve......however this seemed to be exhaust cam only

Ask me how I know

Honestly 99% of it is making sure you set the preload on the tensioner pulley correct before pulling the grenade pin.

I only had a tensioner fail once.

The other had a flywheel where the bolts eccentriced, and it shook the bolt out of the balancer....jumped time on startup (brother was driving).

I had a friend with a black 2nd gen and the announcer at the track called it a "little black honda in the right lane" and he had my boyfriend's HFP jacket in the back, and he ran the fastest time ever in the car.

LOL Just a little food for thought =)

make sure u check the cylinders for nicks or w/e make sure nothing on the bottom end got damaged... i'd hate to see u get the motor together and the cylinders burn oil cuz there's a gash in the wall.
