Talon question.

Postby Jrcz24 » Sun Oct 12, 2008 1:23 pm

Hey there i had a question and i was wondering are Talons easy to work with? The reason for my question is because my co-worker has a 92 Talon and he is pushing about 450 hp (he says), but it seems he is have too much transmission problems. I'm thinking he didnt build it right or something cause of the way his tranny can't support the power. And i was also thinking of trading my DD for this 93 talon on craiglist i found. and another question i have is, is there any problems i should worry about if i get this Talon?

Thanks,
Jim

Don't buy a dsm if you aren't prepared to get your hands dirty. Their transmissions are knows to always have problems, but luckily performance built ones are too too expensive.

$1200 to $1500 should solve your transmission woes, pending you don't frag the center diff...whoops

The cars are as reliable as you make them....they've been my daily rides for about 7rs now. Only failures I've found common is old coolant hoses, which should be replaced anyhow and the ignorance of me reusing a belt tensioner.

good luck!

Well $1500 is a rebuild using your old case, while I've picked up a BRAND NEW world class t5 for $1200... So I guess your point

However the t-56 setup I wish to use eventually is over $2300...so that kinda moots that point

$2300 is still cheap. Built gears for my subie alone are $3200. My 240's trans don't even go there....

currently sporting that t-56 in my car right now, put it in last winter  $2,395 ftl...

if u wanna upgrade it to handle more than 660ft/lbs, add another $2,800 and bump it up to 1200ft/lbs. $6,000 trans :'(

My buddy Bill has gone through so many DSM trannies he taught himself how to rebuild his current one out of all the old broken trannies....its held up for like 6 months now with who knows how much whp...his dsm link was showing 580 the last time i saw him log a pull but hes done much since then and has a way better tune now. no doubt logging over 600 running FP3065 turbo and 1000cc injectors magnus manifold and the list goes on and on....fuckin sick car but hes got more power to ground issues then I do :P so my slips are faster

I have a 1990 eagle talon tsi. I wouldn't i buy another one because once you fix something. Something else breaks and its starting to be hard to find put for some of the old ones. They are very nice cars though other then that.

Sounds like he's FWD

Tell him to try and keep a dead stock AWD trans working great forever on stock parts....hello breakage!

Your first mistake was building a 1990 model. Been there, done that NEVER AGAIN.
