A 3,000 rpm torque converter is pretty much the norm. Anything lower than that's basically a waste of money. It's what I have in my car but, but it's still not enough. (Thunder Racing reccomends at least a 3500 for my cam) so I'll probably just swap it out and get a 4k. As far as the tranny is concerned, you might as well forget the shift kit if you plan on making over 400rwhp. Shift kits simply firm up your shift points and are adequte for a stock or simple bolt-on car (Trans-Go and B&M both make good kits) but they don't reinforce the life or strength of your transmission in anyway. Like I said, if you plan on getting super serious with this thing, you might as well get yours built by Rossler or buy a completely new race-built transmission from a proven, reputable racing tranny shop.

fbirdformula wrote:oh..and on most of hte ls1tech pages bout the lt1 rear ends... i've read the rear ends go first in most cases... and they usually hold to low 12's.... so who knows. i'll probably just do the motor...snap something...fix it...snap something...fix it.. and then i'll have everything hopefully

They usually break at around the low 12 second range, but if you're making anything in the 450-500rwhp range, expect to be in the mid-low 11s. A Moser 12 bolt rear end is about $2300 (for a fully loaded one) or you can get one with a spool(GREAT for drag racing, almost useless around any kind of corners) and without any of the ABS connectors for about $1800-$1900. After seeing what others have been through, you're better off just swapping in a budget 9" or an 8.8" prior to building this monster. But if you want to stick with GM/Moser, then just save for the 12 bolt.

picked up a brand new 8.8 for 200 bucks for my car. Just gotta buy a posi unit and 31 spline mosers and ur good to go. (i wouldn't suggest a spool, just get a diff cover with axle support pins) shouldn't have more than $1,000 total in the rear end.

Trans is kinda a touchy area, depends what u want/how much u wanna spend... i'd just buy a turbo 400 if it was for myself, u'll never hurt it. Getting your current trans rebuilt wouldn't be that much cheaper anyway +it'll be more reliable. As for the stall, definitely look into the 3500-3800 range... less that that is pretty much useless (especially without a trans brake). Though any higher than that will suck for being constantly street driven.

my only problem is welding the shock mounts and stuff on... the 8.8 would be a great rear end if i can find someone who can weld those on for me properly... and anything else that needs to go on

as for the spool... no deal staying w/ a posi rear end and 3.73 gears if i can .... don't wanna go balls to teh wall 4.10's or higher with a spool this is meant to be driving not a track star

i would highly recomend not buying it... jdm turbo kits are all throwen together universial junk..the kit they made for my car, from the pics they had, would never come close to fitting... all the intercooler pipine was universial and they didnt ever have the right bend pipe needed..they make the turbo sound nice but i would never trust it to last...

the ssautochrome kits for hondas are decent minus the wastegate and manifold. the piping for matts was perfect and the turbos can last if you take care of them. proper cool down and etc.

heard alot of bullshit about losing power when switching to a carb... i don't believe it. i'm not rock crawling so i don't have to worry about stalling out... i think the swap will be fine.. fuck computers and fuel injection, this is a poor mans build. i'd rather use a screw driver than a computer to fix my car if it needs tuned anyways

lol. i dunno where u heard that carbs lose power, but thats def not true. (u'll only notice a small difference on really hot days due to heat soak) Tuning is ez, unscrew some stuff, screw other stuff back in, take it for a ride, repeat.

Just a pain in the ass. Be sure to have some extra bowl gaskets laying around and a lot of free time when u tune :P

lol, u've changed ideas like 50 times already. i think you need to take some time and really consider whats most logical for your budget/goals. Don't let other people talk you into shit, u'll just end up regretting it.
