collage majors / plans for future

Postby drewboi » Thu Oct 23, 2008 11:06 pm

i was just curious what you guys are majoring in if your in school and what your plans for the future in that major might be..

im majoring in Graphic Design but i still have no freaking clue what i want to do... i was thinking about picking up some web classes so i can do some freelance work and make some extra $... my one art teacher keeps telling me that with the way i draw i should concider industrial design :roflwtf: ... i origionally wanted to go for animation but apparently the teachers that use to teach that at YSU sucked anus so they canned their asses and now theres no 3d modeling/animation stuff :(...

so what you do guys have planned?

Mechanical Engineering Major. Already working in the field designing railroad cars.

Best advice I can give you is w/e your field of study is, get a job in it NOW!. Even if that means doing paperwork and what not, it looks awesome on your resume and opens a world of possibility for interviews.

right now = designing for some more companies. hopefully doing 1 more major design.

next year = full time job

the following year = college either in columbus, pittsburgh, new york, or california

12 years later after college = getting the fuck out of youngstown because i hate it here. i cant stand 90% of the people, i hate the weather, i hate the fat girls, and no job here would be able to afford to pay me once i get my doctorates degree in graphic design and motion graphics.

oh shit. i wrote my college plans. i forgot to post a picture of my collage. will i be banned?!

anyways. nick. stay in college until you get a degree. if something doesnt work out the way you want it to with websites and switching locations isnt as easy as it sounds, you'll at least have a degree in something and that will get you a job pretty easy if you have a degree for it. im technically heading to southern california for a little while next summer once im 18. then im coming back around here to start college. i just need to take a break. but idk. ill probably be traveling the country alot. i kinda wish i never got into cars and worried about school so much as to quitting bmx. companies would pay me to just ''show up'' at certain events to advertise their stuff. me being friends with quite a few pros, i got free admission wherever i went to most events, along with the free food and shit so basically i was only paying for gas and my own clothes. i mean if i was 18 id be paying bills to. traveling was the main thing. i was in a new city or different state every other day. had a place to stay too because of the people i knew so theres more money i dont have to waste on hotels and stuff. but the main thing that i did was design for a few major companies weather it be sticker designs, websites, shirts, or ads. i either got paid or free stuff in return like clothes which i took advantage of most. it was pretty much awesome but i wasnt pro so its not like i would be paid to support myself so i decided to just give it up and stop wasting my time with it. like a couple months ago the last time i rode my bike. what happened going to toledo ended up turning into getting into a group with 10 other riders from northwestern ohio, stopping in detroit and then fairborn michigan, it was still early in the day and they needed film so we ended up driving a couple hours to chicago, and then we somehow ended up in wisconsin late that night and rode. barely slept. drove home non stop. fell asleep about 100 times. almost died 3 times. one i flew off the freeway because it split and a semi pulled in front of me and i had no where to go. but dam that was fun. all because of a bike. oh well. ill be making 96k a year someday and ill be doing the same but in a lambo =)

^ I must of seen you around somewhere riding - did you ride section 8 back when it was in its goodtimes? I still ride every once in a while, I have a bunch of ramps at the family garage.

Anyways, I'm still at YSU for Business Administration. Within the Past year made the step to go full time playing with cars - having a blast marketing for aftermarket automotive companies - got some other autmotive business ventures tying in as well.

Edit: Nick, you cant move, I need you for my IT dept.!

Thats such a big 180 to do it over that box ! haha, I wouldnt of remembered that.
I knew all of them, but It must of been when i started going there less, cause I never rode with betsy when she rode at section 8. I got into riding street mostly in my 'later years' haha - didnt hit up the parks as much. I was riding my ramps last night, it feel good to be getting back into it, but its not the same yet lol. Its weird how many people on these boards...interesting combination of common interests.

shutup. lol. my tuition will be almost 80,000 just for 4 years and i plan on going longer than that. as long as it gets you a good job, who cares if you spend the rest of your life paying it back. it'll be worth it in the end.

What's up with all the business/accounting majors....boring people. :D Political Science here, might end up with a minor in History. I don't know what I'm going to do yet...probably law school. No clue where. Plan for the future? To be rich...and not living in New Castle.
