I would agree. Not trying to sound mean, but you would be better off starting with a different car (even if it is a cheap POS Mustang  ). Just don't feel like you have to modify your car like these other guys just to fit in. Good luck with the new job though, and come out to some meets!

Word of advice like Brian said don't put any money/parts into your grand-am thats not preventing it from functioning as an everyday car. Save your money buy something worth modifying that has potential. A grand-am IMO has ZERO potential at anything other than some sat-night bracket racing with the hood-scoop minivan.

well, your price range is gonna reflect how much work u want to do to the car. If your going to be building a keeper, your best bet is to try to find something with high mileage that was well taken care of (no dents/rust free) and work from there. Hell.... i'm still rockin' the stock 1998 paint and ppl ask me all the time if i got the car painted

Domestic cars are obviously cheaper in initial cost and in the long run for parts. But don't just base your decision on that. Doing the work to a car you don't truly enjoy will defeat the purpose entirely! And u'll end up wanting to kick yourself in the ass in a few years
