I think I already explained the piston slap? It was a quality control issue on mostly earlier LS1's, and pretty rare. Mine was one of the last to roll off the line, I'm not worried about it.

I squirm and get all nervous? Really? IIRC I said "No, I'm not coming to a stop" then it was immediately "Oh, ok, no problem, I understand."

I drive just fine, Tom jumped and thats all there is to it. It's not my fault. You even admitted it. I explained this earlier too. I've raced from a dig before, plenty of times. My car launches just fine. It also does very well from a roll, it down shifts into 1st and breaks the tires loose on 2.73 gears.. I'm obviously doing something right. I guess it just shows how much you know about racing when you think manually shifting and leaving your TC on is the proper way to launch.. wow :lol:

we didnt say no problem i understand, we said seriously? its not like its a big deal, and then pretty much everyone laughed. i said to brett when i talked to him on the phone later that i understand you dont want to stop on the freeway, so lets drive 10 min to run from a dig. and you said no. why did you say no? if your car launches so good why not run from a dig? cuz you both sure seemed to think it was a terrible idea at the time, even though we were trying to explain to you it would have been a much better race from a dig. its like you thought we were trying to trick you or something.

i just googled 2002 camaro piston slap and found this on the first page:

GM's 2002 "improvements" notwithstanding, it appears that the LS1 design continues to be prone to piston slap. Starting in 2002, a design change added a new oil scraper ring, reduced the piston-to-bore clearance tolerance, and added a teflon coating on the piston skirt to prevent scuffing due to the the tighter clearances. As I understand it, these changes were introduced primarily to address complaints about high oil consumption. A side benefit was supposedly elimination of piston slap due to the tighter piston-to-cylinder wall tolerances. It now appears that GM was well aware that cold start piston slap would never be eliminated due to a flaw in the engine's basic design, as evidenced by this extract from page 6-37 in the Helm's Manual:

"Important: A cold piston knock which disappears in 1.5 minutes should be considered acceptable. A cold engine knock usually disappears when the specific cylinder's secondary ignition circuit is grounded out during diagnosis." (No s--t; if there's no combustion force against the piston, the piston skirt shouldn't be driven against the cylinder wall).


Thats a forum about GTO's complaining about some of them having piston slap. it wasnt at all "rare" before 2002, and it had nothing to do with quality control. and it still happens on GTO's with the ls1, and they didnt start making those until what....oh yeah 2004. i can copy and paste a bunch more shit if you really want, but you probably google shit about ls1's and jerk off all day so ill let you go ahead and do that.

tom jumped you by like a half second, not the two cars he IMMEDIATELY put on you because you were waiting for your car to downshift. which is a total driver fail, period. how can you say that it downshifting and breaking the tires loose means YOURE doing something right? all youre doing is pushing the pedal to the floor and wasting time while you wait on your car to downshift and break the tires loose and waste more time. oh yeah thats some good driving there.

i told you in the parking lot that manually shifting an automatic can hurt it, but thats not what i said to do. you probably werent even really listening to what i was telling you to try to do so fuck it. keep getting walked by two cars while you wait on your shit do downshift, like i care. im just over here KILLING THE CAR SCENE ahahhahahahahahahahahaha.

and either your car leaves harder on the traction control or it doesnt. which ever way it leaves harder is what you should be doing. i dont know ive never driven your car, but my guess is that it would come out harder on the tc. which ever way works better is the proper way, but since you dont EVER race from a dig who the fuck cares.

meh seems like the z28 woulda lost anyway had it been completely even. As for the piston slap junk, subie motors are notorious for the same thing, especially built ones. Once warm it really isn't even an issue. LS motors are great motors there's no arguing that point IMO.

and im done with the whole traction control thing, ive never driven the car so i dont really know how it drives with it on. you shouldnt need it anyway to bring out an automatic car with shit gears thats not even very powerful anyway. my point was if youre too stupid to bring the car out (which you both obviously are) then just put the tc on and go, even with it on youll rip tom out of the hole (which you would have).

I spin badly till forever....however he was too afraid to find out and thought he'd have the chance from a roll; which is why the 40 roll went to 35, whatever the sweet spot.

I left exactly when the 3rd beep would have been had he not extended it out waiting for his ass to downshift fully. Appearantly the 8+ cars pulled had nothing to do with it either. :roll:

well honestly to answer the question about when you let off, JUST POST UP YOUR VID!!! you took one, i saw brett with the camera, plus he told me he was going to film it. so since tom wasnt right next to you it should be pretty easy to hear in the vid when you lifted, you were running your cutout open right? i want to see it from that view anyway.
